SOP of Diploma of Business

          STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

"Success will be within the reach only when we start reaching out for it"

Introduction

I am XXXXXXX, a permanent resident of XXXXXXX Municipality, Ward No. 10, Jhapa, Province No. 1, Nepal and I am applying to study in Australia, with an aim to continue my higher education. With this, as a support to my decision; I have presented this statement of purpose including my reasons for studying at XXXXXXX XXXXXXX. I have been enrolled for the course of BSB50120 Diploma of Business leading to BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business as a package program. I am confident that with this statement of purpose I will be able to surpass the criteria of eligibility.

 Academic Qualification and Experience

I have always been a very dedicated student in my studies as well as on extracurricular activities. I completed my School Leaving Certificate in the year XXXXXXX A.D from XXXXXXX Higher Secondary School XXXXXXX-14, Jhapa scoring GPA 2.85. With the immense interest in Business, I joined XXXXXXX English Secondary School and completed my school leaving certificate examination in Management Stream in the year 2018 A.D scoring CGPA 2.49.

After my +2, I want to focus on study for the betterment of my future, so for that I joined a training session of “Accounting Package” in XXXXXXX. for five months that is from 3rd November, 2018 to 5th April, 2019 and after that I worked for XXXXXXX Kastha Furniture Udyog as an Assistant Accountant from 15th June, 2019 to 16th September, 2021. Though I was working and having a quality of job here, I was never satisfied as the job could not bring me inner peace.

Growing up and belonging to the industrial area, I was always influenced to run my own business. I always prefer working for myself rather than working for other. My decision became stronger with higher motivation after I left working. However, I could not immediately execute my plans due to the COVID 19 Pandemic when the existing businesses were collapsing. I had to have strong-grounds to plan, strategize, calculate the risks and implement my plans of business so as to prosper. Hence, due to this reason, I wanted to resume my studies but this time in a well developed and quality education providing country and not in my home country.

As my future depended on it, I cannot stop but did rigorous research in prospects of further education in different nations. I was totally surprised by the fact that there was a huge difference in the education system of the whole world. Accordingly, I then attended different virtual seminar conducted by various agencies and later appeared on IELTS examination on 12 March, 2022. I scored an overall score of 6.0.

I am glad that even in the drastic situation of chaos; I was able to get an apply-able score and hence proceeded further.

Why Not Study in Home Country?

Choosing to study Business in Nepal as a student, I will have limited options to prosper. Bachelor of Business in Nepal is a four-year degree program conducted by Tribhuvan University, faculty of Management. There are three business courses; Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), Bachelor in Business Management (BBM) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) being offered nationwide by different education imparting organizations of Nepal. On the course of research on my subject of interest, I found comparatively larger number of institutions providing me with the same course here in my country. Listing among of which, most of them were affiliated to Tribhuvan University, the most prestigious university of Nepal. The colleges like St. Xavier’s College ,TrinityInternational College  , Brihaspati College  , Balkumari College ,Nepal Institute of Management and Science ,Triton International College. I also discovered other colleges affiliated to different universities of Nepal (Pokhara University, Purbanchal University, and Kathmandu University) but they didn’t left an impression upon me for which I left those options behind. When I shifted my focus to Tribhuvan University affiliated colleges, I found that; mostly the administration process is done by the Student Union and politics come into play. Even if I howsoever chose to study in Nepal, I would have to face a number of complications as on the completion of my course, I would be again challenged for my job since the rapid expansion of higher education is producing more university graduates than the labor market can absorb because of the deteriorating economic situation of the country. A recent survey on education and employment in Nepal showed that more than 25 percent of the university graduates in Nepal have been working on jobs requiring less education than they obtained. Experience has shown that this under-utilization of educated manpower usually leads to a higher turnover rate, lower job satisfaction and reduced productivity. There also is an increasing amount of unemployment of university graduates in Nepal.

The ever-unresolved problem that exists within the institutions of Nepal is the implementation of the budget for infrastructures development. Currently, about 90 percent of the university's recurrent expenditure goes for salaries of teachers and staff, thus there is a serious shortage of non-salary recurrent expenditure for instructional purposes, such as chemicals and other consumable materials for laboratories, reference books for teachers and students, and supplies for instructional purposes. Except for a few externally supported specialties, a lack of capital investments for the past ten years has led to a serious shortage of classrooms, laboratories and other facilities.

Another drawback for studying in Nepal is that, despite the large topographical obstacles that separate many parts of the country from Kathmandu, individual campuses have extremely limited administrative control of their operations. For example, they do not have the authority to set or modify course content, or even score the examinations of their students. Although technically the campuses are supposed to determine enrolment, TU's central office has in practice, set campus enrolment at levels relative to demand pressure. Personnel decisions are made at the central level. Although poorly trained, most university employees are permanent, and no monitoring mechanisms are used to assess their performance. As a result, campus chiefs have very limited control over their staff and the quality of education they deliver along with having few opportunities for leadership; the management skills of campus chiefs are weak. Also, if I study somewhere out of the country it will be proven beneficiary to me for my further career. Hence, I decided to study overseas.

Why Study in Australia than other countries?

Decision of studying overseas and not within home country is already a daunting task which was made even more tiresome by having to choose in between the countries which offers education to international students. On this course, I urged to shortlist some of the popular study destinations offering quality of education, under which fell the topmost countries like: UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Japan and Australia. Additionally, I struggled for searching in between the institutions like: Regent’s University London (UK), University of Greenwich (UK), Middlesex University (UK), Manhattanville College (USA), Upper Iowa University (USA), Arden University Berlin Study Centre (Germany), University of Winnipeg (Canada), Royal Roads University (Canada) and University of Canada West (Canada). The abundance in colleges and universities made it more difficult to choose so I managed to choose my study destination being based upon the factors like safety, affordability, future prospects, lifestyle and exposure, weather, language accessibility, practicality and modern technologies. While studying all these factors, I chose to study in Australia due to many reasons.

Though USA is the dream destination among the Nepali students especially for study, due to the recent changes in the student visa processing, there has been a considerable reduction in the number of student visas which has created problems even for some serious students having strong financial background and no intention of staying back in the USA. So, I do not want to be one of those victims and lose my valuable time. From the student’s security point of view also, USA is considered less secured as multiple shootings in the college and universities occur frequently.

On the other hand, United Kingdom (UK), the second most popular destination for international students only after the USA, has a history of unstable immigration laws. The recent exit of UK from the European Union has created political instability within the region and put questions regarding the future of the students.  This gives international students a lack of security and an unsafe situation to study in. Additionally, the tuition fees in the UK are extremely high (ranging from 13,000 Pounds to 17,500 and 18,000 Pounds a year which is nearly equal to AUD 32,900- AUD 33,900) and living cost is also very high. Also, the weather is very unpredictable in UK which can invite sickness to me.

Canada has still been a fruit which we can only dream of but never achieve, as getting study permit of Canada for international students from Nepal is really rare regardless of the strong and genuine documentation. Also, the cold climate makes it difficult to study and survive there.

The nations which have English as a second language will be difficult to adjust on in spite of the affordability and lower tuition costs (8000 to 12000 Euros per year approximately AUD 15,000 to AUD 19,000). The countries like Germany, Japan, France and other European countries requires additional language skills to be eligible to study, which lengthens my processing time and creates a language barrier to me while I will be commuting in the local market.

On the other hand, as both a country and a continent, Australia offers a safer environment to its students along with a quality of education and affordable standard of living.  Moreover, Australian colleges/universities offer world class education with varied courses to many international students and easy visa processing with affordable tuition fees and living expenses around 40%-60% lesser than that of other study abroad destination. Similarly, the students can take advantage from its new innovation and research sources. Education wise, Australian institutions offer a wide variety of world-ranked and internationally recognized qualifications, a feat Nepal has yet to achieve. There are a few of the many reasons; I along with other international students seek to study at a good Australian institution. A solid foundation in my field of study would aid me in my future career opportunities. Moreover, this is a great way for students to get exposure in the world and utilize the time wisely. Furthermore, Australia has a multi-cultural society where everyone can study and live in a safe environment. The Australian government has also set in place measures for international students to feel their well-being and social security are being safeguarded under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework, which are laws which protect the rights of international students studying in Australia, including the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code 2007.Under the framework, the rights of an international student include:

·         Student’s right to receive, before enrolling, current and accurate information about the course, fees, modes of study, and other information from the institution and the institution’s agents.

·         Student’s right to sign a written agreement with the institution before paying fees, setting out the services to be provided, fees payable, and information about the refunds of course’s money.

·         The Tuition Protection Service (TPS) is a placement and refund service for international students, which is activated in the event that the institution is unable to teach the student’s course.

And I know when I am studying in Australia; I am safe and also protected by the Australian law in favorable climatic conditions that almost make me feel like my home. Also, I will not be preparing myself for a language barrier and am confident of making friends easily. Knowing all these measures reassured me as a prospective international student.

Why Sydney?

Sydney is the capital New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia and Oceania. Sydney is undeniably the most attractive study destination for any international student, partly because of the opportunities it offers, partly for the rich multicultural backgrounds it Harbour and partly because of the appeal it has being the biggest city in Australia. Sydney might be said to be expensive but it also offers a wide range of accommodation options, especially for students since the number of international students in Sydney is a lot. One can always share their space with another fellow student. Since the campus of XXXXXXX College is located at a prime location of the city, I can either try to find a place to live in the CBD or some more affordable suburbs not too far from the city like Hurstville, Burwood and Strathfield etc. The weekly expense on accommodation depends on whether I share my room with someone or not. If I do share my room, the costs may come up to 110 to 125 AUD per week. If I were to live by myself, the weekly rent may be up to 200 AUD and more per week.

Reasons for Choosing XXXXXXX College

Australia being home to top universities among the world, it was quite a dilemmatic condition for me as I had to choose just one out of a large sea. Though it was a diploma program which I was focusing on, first I looked out for the universities in Sydney; whose name I frequently have heard through my friends and relatives, that included: - Deakin University, University of Technology Sydney (UTS In search), Southern Cross University (SCU), Charles Sturt University (CSU), Victoria University (VU), University of Wollongong (UOW), Western Sydney University (WSU) and so on. At Deakin University, Charles Sturt University, Southern Cross University, there were only Bachelor’s course for undergraduate studies and graduate diplomas were provided as postgraduate degree.

On the other hand, Victoria University provides Diploma of Business (Enterprise) lasting a year that costs AUD 11,250 per semester. Also, UOW provides the course, Diploma of Business 2 sessions and 3 sessions for 7 months and 12 months respectively however the tuition were relatively higher than expected resulting AUD 27,810 course fee for just a year, whereas the cost in institutes would barely exceed the amount even if we study for 2 and half year.( . And the acceleration and 2nd year entry programs introduced by WSU and UTS In search were nowhere closer to being economical  also the entry requirements were comparatively higher.

Meanwhile, the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping leading to Diploma of Business was the most preferable and most frequent courses abundantly found in the VET colleges in Sydney. I found the colleges like : Pacific College of Technology  , Sydney Metro College , Queensford College , and Kent Institute Australia . But none of these institutes provided the course as I am provided by the

XXXXXXX College. I found the Diploma of Business leading to Advanced Diploma of Business unique at XXXXXXX College which is why I was attracted to the institute and the program package.

XXXXXXX College is a modern and innovative tertiary institution offering careers and university study pathways for domestic and international students. Taking care about the student’s professional future; the college also has a strong network with employers and industry associations facilitating students with Industry Placement programs and employment assistance as well. Moreover, the college provides fully equipped training facilities with experienced academic staff that have gained industry specific skills. The unique student support team and an extraordinary friendly study environment of XXXXXXX lured me to study here.

XXXXXXX College is located at Level 1, 7 Hassall Street in the Parramatta Central Business District (CBD) and is easily accessible via a number of public transport options. Many buses, trains and ferries travel to Parramatta, with just a short 5-minute walk to the campus.

As a student at the Parramatta campus, I can enjoy range of food outlets, recreation areas, entertainment venues and Westfield shopping centre at my doorstep. City of Parramatta library is just stroll away from the campus where I can enjoy books, CDs, DVDs and a wide range of services. The institution offers a friendly and stimulating environment with smaller classes where trainers get to know the students, ensuring that they acquire sounds skills and knowledge in their chosen courses. A variety of teaching methods apply the latest teaching materials in both theoretical and practical works, which are relevant to the needs of the industry and for further studies. Trainers use latest educational technologies, audio-visual and multimedia to enhance the learning experience, understanding, knowledge and skills of the students.

Why Vet Course?

VET course is a course that it focuses on teaching practical skills that will benefit me in the different areas. It helps in upgrading up-to-date skills so I can effortlessly transition into a new field, refresh and develop my talents in the field of my choice. VET study in Australia is advantageous because it provides practical practice in state-of-the-art training facilities; these degrees often take less time to complete than a university degree, allowing for earlier entry into the industry. VET courses are often undertaken there is freedom in where I can study around the country with city and regional education. Due to the practical nature of the diploma, the time spent studying and completing the task is greatly reduced. It is more course-centric. In short, the course is deeply associated with industry-experienced trainers in the areas in which you are passionate. Another good thing is that you can complete your diploma within a year. This allows me to enter the workforce and profit faster. In addition, vocational training graduates achieve higher employment rates than single graduates. According to some studies, 78% of VET graduates are hired after graduation and can find a job after their study.

Why the course Diploma of Business leading to Advanced Diploma of Business in Australia?

We live in a world that is constantly changing and faster than ever before. In this new world change is necessary to achieve success. Jobs are no longer confined to the same four walls. New technologies and innovations are redefining the way the world does business. When everything around us is changing we can do one of two things: go with the tide or take control and become the driver of this change. But we will never achieve great things by going with the tide.

Meanwhile, my degree is a VET degree leading to an undergraduate course; Vocational Education and Training Courses (VET) are the courses which prepare the international students for competing with the domestic students at their utmost level. VET qualifications are designed to get students up to speed and ready to work from day one when we graduate. It’s for this reason that many VET qualifications have a compulsory practical component to ensure we are getting the hands-on learning experiences we will need.

VET Education helps international students like me to accommodate with the educational environment of Australia.  The main focus of VET courses is to provide practical skills. This means that they are generally more ‘hands-on’ than higher education courses, which tend to have a greater focus on theory. The Australian education system is a whole new level education system to what we are used to in our home country. We might find it hard to adjust to the style of teaching or the fewer number of teaching hours, as well as the need for independent study. Completing a lower-level VET qualification is a great way to ease ourselves into study before starting a degree. It also gives us time to get used to in our new home and begin making friends.

In comparison to university studies, they will involve hundreds of hours of lectures and study before we are offered an opportunity to put our knowledge to the test in a real-life scenario. VET qualification on the other hand, will see us entering our practical placement after two months where a bachelor of education student won’t do any practical placement until at least their third year. I was a little disheartened that I will have to study Bachelors of 3 years even after the completion of my Diploma degree for which I have to lose 2 years. This whole process would have taken a long time. However, the program Diploma leading to Bachelors have provided me with a safe future as my Credits would be transferred to Bachelor studies and hence, I will not feel the Diploma studies was an extra or wasted period. Thus, I feel like VET programs will be of more help than studying in Bachelor in Australia.

Course Benefit

Diploma in Business is the perfect choice for anyone who is looking to spearhead their career and knows the basic tips and trade to start manage and grow a business. The Diploma of Business course is designed for future-focused, ambitious and people serious about taking their career or business to new heights. With the course I will be  able to act in a strategic manner and will also get to learn about the various techniques that can help them in achieving essential organizational objectives, such as managing a company’s budget in an efficient and prudent manner, establishing and fostering rewarding cross-functional and cross-border relationships and exploiting the latest tools and technologies to solve real-world problems and issues faced by their clients – key concepts that will help them discharge their duties effectively when they take up senior positions in their present or future organizations. I will develop broad and specialized skills across a wide range of business functions needed in dynamic business environments. And learn how to manage risk, plan market research, manage budgets and financial plans and manage people performance and much more.

Meanwhile, Advanced Diploma in Business will develop my knowledge of strategic decision-making and provide a more comprehensive understanding of decision-making skills, project management expertise and their application. I will also learn about relationship management and implementation through public relations activity and the effect of international markets on buyer activities. I will be equipped with analytical, critical and innovative ideas which can be implemented in practical business solutions. This program will also develop self-learning and team working skills required for application in management and business. It is a comprehensive study of business and management where I will gain a platform to enhance their managerial and entrepreneurial skills by gaining more clarity about the subject.

Future career plan

I strongly believe that better opportunities will be on my way after completion of my study. Earning this degree would enable me to strengthen my skills to better serve and will certainly be something providing me with broad opportunities in Business sector. My coursework coupled with my interest will allow me to function well. I have many ambitions for myself as I embark on this stage of my life. I believe that this particular study will provide milestone in my career along with invaluable experiences and skills that will allow me to become a successful, innovative professional and give assistance to accomplish my goal.

My ultimate goal in my career is to make a commendable contribution to the business world either by starting an innovative venture or by doing research which would change the dimensions of future computing and the way we perceive the managerial field. Moreover, a career with open prospects would give constant incentives to improve myself and to gain more knowledge. After completion of my degree, I can work as Executive Officer, Office Manager, Program coordinator, Senior Executive Officer, Regional Manager, Program Manager, Executive Manager or Director Manager, Human Resource (Strategy), General Manager in many of the business firms as well as I can also apply for mid-level managerial positions with companies like Hulas Automobiles , Chaudhary Groups , Surya Nepal, and financial and banking institutions like Standard Chartered Bank , Nabil Bank , NSBI Bank, and others, with monthly salaries ranging from NPR 55,000 to 65,000/-.

On the other hand, as it is good to have a backup plan, I am confident of not being let down in terms of employability as well since in Nepal, the international degree is valued more than the local degree as we all know that we lack in terms of technicalities. With the degree in Business I would have a broad horizon of job opportunities in business field in the post of a Manager, Job opportunities are available in any field be it accountancy firms, insurance companies, or any other businesses with more than enough positions in the reputed businesses of Nepal like Bhat Bhateni Group , Chachan Group , Chaudhary Group  , Dugar Family  , Golchha Organization , Golyan Group  , ICTC Group , IME Group  .

I would like to outline the major difference between an accountant personnel and a businessman; an accountant will have to work in a company for their income, whereas a business man has the authority to build his own empire without working for others. Hence, I guess it will be a huge humor to ask a business man for his remuneration. I also aim to open my own company after the completion of my degree program. Through the Vet program I will have the practical implementation whereas from the bachelor’s degree, I will be completed by the theoretical knowledge as well, this experience will help me to build my own company when I will return home.

Even in the international organizations as well like the UN and UNICEF Nepal has been hiring many professionals for their smooth operations. I have a structured and deeply researched plan in terms of my future and the only thing that I am waiting for is to take my first step by studying the Bachelor of Business course in Australia.

I am confident that the degree I will receive from the XXXXXXX College will strengthen my career and give me with good possibilities in the global economy. With more experience, a larger network, and contacts to industry personnel and specialists, I plan to gradually work toward opening my own business in the near future, putting forth my full effort in the fields of business and management, as well as contributing to the development of my country's economy.

Incentives to Return Back to Home Country:

I need to return to my own country to put everything I've learned into practice. Young generations like us must put our skills and knowledge to good use in order to help the country thrive. I have my families around here in Nepal who have generally upheld me. I can't simply abandon them. I can't avoid them for longer timeframe. Because we are a traditional Nepalese family, there is always the possibility of inhabitation, and my parents have high expectations of me. I have a strong bond to my parents, as do all children, and I cannot imagine life without them.

As a responsible child, I believe I have a responsibility to look after all of our assets and belongings, including our house and thus the lands. My parents have always pushed and inspired me to be a better person, and they have always been supportive of my academic endeavors. So, it’s my turn to give my family back all the joy they deserve, and I strongly believe that I have a lot of responsibility towards them. I will be better able to do that after I acquire sufficient skill and knowledge in the field of business and management.

Financial Arrangements

I am being sponsored by my family members. I have a family of five members. I am the eldest son of the family and younger to me is my brother XXXXXXX. I live with my parents XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX. Our Uncle XXXXXXX also lives with us and we are a happy family, permanent residents of XXXXXXX Municipality, Ward No.10, Jhapa, Province No 1, Nepal.

In terms of financials, my father works as a Marketing officer at XXXXXXX. while my mother works at XXXXXXX as a Supervisor. On the other hand, my uncle is a Marketing Representative at XXXXXXX also we have rented our two flats to XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX respectively.

Visa Condition:

I am quite aware of the fact that being an international student there are certain obligations of higher education visa sub class 500 which I must compulsorily abide by. Some of the obligations are as follows:

• I must maintain at least 80% attendance in my class and during the course.
• I am entitled to work maximum 40 hours per fortnight as an international student.
• I need to timely inform the concerned authority in case of change in my address while being in Australia.
• Student health cover (OSHC) of the student should be properly maintained.
• I must maintain enrollment at the same level as when applying for visa or go for a higher level according to the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF). Transferring to a course with a lower AQF or a course that is not AQF awarded will be considered as a breach of the student condition and thus can lead to visa cancellation.
• I need to have sufficient funds to meet my living expenses and also cover the course fee.
• I cannot change my education provider before 6 months of my commencement of study.

I assure to follow all the rules and regulations and abide by the Australian law during my stay in Australia. I am aware that under the breaching of any of these laws I am supposedly to be deported by the Australian government.

Final Words:

I am sure the quality knowledge of Australia will mould me to be in the learning mode all my life; opening the way for constant growth as a person and a professional. To conclude, I would like to state that if granted admission for studying in XXXXXXX College, I would perform to the best of my abilities and hope to acquire skills that will help me to stay focused upon my dream. I am aware of my drawbacks and weak points and hence I want to polish my traits such that I can finally prove the immense curiosity that I am holding upon me.

I ensure the high commission that I am a genuine student eagerly dreaming of staying temporarily and studying in Australia. Finally, I take this opportunity to thank you for gifting me this chance to express myself.
